Welcome to Old Man Ski’s, a likely unexpected basement lounge tucked away in a dim but cozy corner of my home. Not a nasty, dirty, wet basement... nor yet a dry, bare, sandy basement with nothing in it to sit down on or to drink... but a tiki bar basement, and that means comfort. Intentioned to have the look and feel of a dark but whimsical mid-century tropical lounge, Old Man Ski’s wants to transport you to a, somewhat creepy, far away paradise. Think of a Key West dive blocks off Duval, meets Trader Sam’s, meets the Haunted Mansion. The ambient glow of lights dance across the room while mood appropriate tunes fill the air. Signature cocktails (take a look at the menu) are (mostly) expertly mixed with a delightful blend of fresh fruit juices, tropical syrups, and exotic spirits (or just have yourself a beer)... The decor and libations are aimed at taking you to a distant port of call with every sip. With its warm, laid-back vibe and welcoming spirit, Old Man Ski’s is not just a bar; it’s a sanctuary to unwind and have a beverage or ten.
